So, What Can You Do to Keep Wildlife Out of Your House?
Nuisance animals such as raccoons, squirrels, birds, bats, etc., can enter homes through open windows, doors, vents, chimneys, attics, crawl spaces, roof leaks, holes in walls, etc. There are several things you can do to prevent these types of nuisances from entering your home.
First, check all openings around your house for possible entry points. Check under sinks, inside cabinets, behind appliances, and other areas where an animal could hide. Also look at your attic, basement, garage, shed, and even outside your property. Make sure everything is tight-fitting and secure.
Second, seal up any cracks or holes around your home. Seal up any gaps between siding and trim, between exterior wall surfaces, and between interior wall surfaces. Use caulk or weather stripping to fill any small gaps.
Third, use motion sensors or cameras to monitor your home. These devices will alert you when they detect movement near your home. They can be set up to automatically trigger alerts whenever activity is detected.
Fourth, install mesh screens or window guards to cover all openings in your windows and doors. Mesh screens should fit tightly against the frame so that no animal can squeeze through them. Window guards are similar to screen covers but usually made out of metal instead of plastic.
